Petra Mojo

Based in Lisbon, I work primarily in oil and occasionally in acrylic. I love working with gold leaf and pigments even if hidden from the eye. My process is tactile and intuitive, often painting on the floor and using my hands as a main tool to build surface, gesture, and presence. I am especially drawn to the physical richness of impasto and the immediacy of alla prima, allowing each work to develop through both control and instinct. My paintings are guided by process, surface, and presence, allowing material and gesture to speak before fixed interpretation. My artistic foundation was first shaped by my father, an oil painter, whose guidance gave me an early respect for the discipline, tradition, and seriousness of painting as well as the integrity of materials I use.
